A Message From Principal Kim Mukai-Otani
Mahalo to temporary assigned (TA) Principal Paula Inouye for her caring for Pomaika’i. Under her leadership safety concerns were addressed and procedures implemented. Community partnerships continued to be fostered to support our State recognized arts integration program and a water hydration station was installed through the partnership of the University of Hawaii School of Medicine, HICORE (Hawaii Initiative for Childhood Obesity Research and Education), and Kaiser Permanente.
My name is Kim Mukai-Otani and I am honored to be selected as the “new” Principal of Pomaika’i Elementary. Most people call me, Mrs. Otani. I was born and raised on Maui and attended Wailuku Elementary, Iao Intermediate and Baldwin High schools. I have spent the majority of my teaching career at Baldwin High School including one year at Hana High School before becoming an administrator. I was the Vice Principal at Wailuku Elementary for 5 years and have been the Principal at Kamali’i Elementary for 5 years. I was selected to represent Maui District as a National Distinguished Principal.
I have been learning more about my Pomaika’i o’hana and look forward to meeting you in person. I hope you are excited to return to Pomaika’i Elementary and share stories of your summer adventures with me!
Pomaika’i Vision: Learning is a Journey; Each person plays a critical role.
Let us begin our journey together.
